see? dead people, aka mom and dad. Both were first generation American.

Guessing game time:

One was Irish/English (with a mother named Anna McCann, for pity's sake).

The other was Eastern European Jew, generations back, with rabbis infesting the family.

Which was which?

This is one of those photos you get from a booth . . . photomatic, I think they're called? I love those things. I should post more. I have one I found on the street. It's of a couple kissing--one of the four frame type. I think it had fallen out of someone's trash.

I have some great four-photo ones of me and my kids jammed into a booth--usually someone's crying.

Here's another picture of the parents for the Guess The Heritage game. I never saw them doing canoodling like this. Never, ever. They were in their mid-40s by the time I came along. I was a "Hey, I thought I was finished with that!" baby.

Hmm. No more dead people pix on this computer. Too bad. Somewhere in my life is a picture of Danny looking like a gangster.

Oh, and here's the mysterious grandfather--Sundel. I did meet him, but he was thoroughly ga-ga by that that time. The comb-over was long gone by then too.

    You look f-ing exactly like your mom! Smile, eyes, nose, expression of ... innocence, anticipation ... I can't believe it.
    You should get out pictures from all her decades - and look at your future.
    Or - maybe I should come & see you - maybe it's been so long, I've forgotten how you look. I think I'll come see you and compare the picture with the real thing.

This means I still care about writing.  Speaking of reviewers and writers: A couple of days ago, a writer said she was tired of getting white ladies writing reviews of her books. She had an excellent point in the long run: her stories are meant for a particular audience and she wants them to resonate with those people and get more reviews from them.  But that first line was just....horribly obnoxious. I say this from my POV of course. Not a white lady who writes reviews -- but as a review grubber.   Anyone who disses any reader (especially ones that give honest reviews) deserves to be cast into the pit of being ignored.

I can't stay away from the subject of Sarah Palin. I've been looking at the trashiest stories, too. Nothing to do with her stands on important issues (or if Alaska's proximity to Russia means she's got experience with foreign issues). Some of my conclusions from the wading into useless dreck: She's far better looking than she was when she did sportscasting. Say what you like about her, I think she's pretty. She's probably got the sort of charisma that gives me the willies. A lot of people who are considered inspiring make me want to escape their presence. A form of jealousy? A sense of inferiority? Maybe. Anyway, from the reports I've read, she's supposed to be the sort of person who makes you feel as if she's listening to you and cares about your opinion. She's got a room-filling presence. Eeearrrgh. All of that sounds just like what they said about Bill Clinton. I never particularly paid attention to the fact that Hillary is female--sure
