Another John and Marcia, my favorite couple. Meanwhile, I have a bad feeling and it's not just because the house smells of toasted sewage. There's a huge puddle forming in front of our house. Huge. Lake Rothwell. No one else on the block has one.

Bettie Sharpe rocks .... and not just because she's a great writer, an actual FNV . She made a very cool button for Dean who won a contest here. It's such a cool button that it makes me want to hold another contest. February, maybe and Maybe I'll make it a title / back cover copy contest because I love those things and they're a great way to practice writing: 1. blurbs 2. query letters 3. sucknopses. (in which you try to keep a perky style while giving away key plot points) Why should I care about you , my fellow rioters getting some practice with these skill sets? Because Bettie did my button as part of a play it forward thing so now I'm tagged it. She refuses socks and says I should continue to support "wobbly baby deer writers" (I love that phrase) Attention: any baby deer in search of real guidance should head over to PBW. Also learn to hold very still so you blend into the landscape. (that's not so much for the rioters as for any real bambis ...

I finally got asked the question by a young writer. As a has-been NY author, now only an e-writer do you feel bitter, Kate? Are people who once sought you out now avoiding you? She was less blunt than that, way more polite, but that was the gist. Huh? Oh, so is that why you people never call or write? It's entirely comforting and pleasant to be reminded that except for wanting a few contracts now and then, I'm fine with who I am and what I do. Of course it helps that the weather's perfect and the climbing rose is in bloom. ____ **okay, nearly everyone's idea of a pinnacle in this business

Thursday Thirteen--things I'll do instead of RT

right now I'm fretting because an ex-boyfriend wants to meet for coffee and that just makes me fret. The rest of the list: 1. Reread Vonnegut as a private wake. My kid got me Slaughterhouse Five for a present. Or so he says. He bought it a few months ago and forgot to give it to me. It's in his room somewhere and I can't enter that place because of the floor is festooned with magic cards and 12 sided dice. 2. Read every one of the adventures of John and Marcia. 3. Not read or write another word about Imus. I've been doing both. Naughty, naughty. You can't take away the chocolate eggs, though. I ate 'em. 4. Write a short Summer story to sell for a fabulous sum to [name of publisher here]. 5. Make a keynote speech to my family about the most inspiring moment of my writer's career OR the terrible low point out of which I had to drag my butt. Note to self, have theme include how I overcame adversity or, even better, helped someone else do it. (Nothing about bei...
