Showing posts with the label NOT severe whining

Well, heck

I waded through the blogs and websites and still don't get what happened with NCP and Somers. It might remain one of those WTF things forever.... or at least a week, which is the same thing in interweb time. Here's what I do know: once again, I am reminded I should appreciate the epublishers I've dealt with. I get paid on time, any disagreements are dealt with professionally and quickly, communication is great. Sure there is drama out there, but, yo, this blog is all me me me me me. So. Thank you, Total E-bound, Samhain, and Ellora's Cave . (and you, too, Rob) You guys are professional and you rock. Hubris. Asking for trouble. Ack. I'm going to hit publish and then immediately go look for some wood to touch.

a list of stuff

1. Hey, I like the BOBs, Corn Dog! (see comments in previous thread if you wonder what the hell I'm talking about.) I've even voted in them previous years.** In fact, you should be up for one. And so should doug and elsewhere and hula doula and bettie and tumperkin and sam and everyone else I read and admire. If I had any gumption, I'd go nominate you all (okay, maybe I won't nominate you, CD, after the comment, though I do think you should get some kind of this is a Great Blog award) . 2. Today I'm over at Hitting the Hotspot, inventing love holidays. I was inspired by today, which, as you know, is Steak and Blowjob day Oh, 3.14...it's also Pi day! Happy pi day! I'm rather smitten with my November 14 idea and might make up some cards for it. The October plan has the potential for even sicker and sadder results than Festivus. 3. Yes, the evidence is in. After getting a BOB nomination and a really nice letter from an editor, Kate is now strutting around l...

no, I haven't drunk any wine

I think it's hard to stop blogging. I'm addicted to blathering to the world blah blah blah. It's fun. But eventually the whole thing peters out, right? And is it better to go with a bang (or even a small pop) and a cheerio or wait until the only person reading the blog was doing a search for "naked monkey sex" (yes really that's what he was looking for. Nasty of me to assume "he") My sister thinks that the phrase there is no growth without pain is bullshit. But I sometimes think the only permanent internal growth can come from pain. Reward is too easy to take for granted and not as memorable as pain. Yeah, I presume the world experiences are all divided into carrot and stick and that's bull. A lot is life just standing around munching the grass waiting for the driver to make up his mind. No carrots, not sticks, just you the mule (or is it an ass in that expression?) and some dull grass. If I wasn't blathering (blah blah blah), and writin...

a positive post

I'm reading an excellent Golden Heart entry. I want to finish reading this book and it's so good, I know I will soon. There . See? It's not all whine all the time.

better living through pharmaceuticals

except when the fine print comes into play. General — Physicians should consider the cardiovascular status of their patients, since there is a degree of cardiac risk associated with sexual activity. Therefore, treatments for erectile dysfunction, including CIALIS, should not be used in men for whom sexual activity is inadvisable as a result of their underlying cardiovascular status. duh, you morons. Left Ventricular Outflow Obstruction — Patients with left ventricular outflow obstruction, (e.g.,aortic stenosis and idiopathic hypertrophic subaortic stenosis) can be sensitive to the action of vasodilators including PDE5 inhibitors NO, I am so not on Cialis, but my kids have memorized the ads which play almost continuously during breaks in the shows they watch (Mythbusters, History Channel stuff--Old guy shows) Even though I force them to turn the sound down, we see all those happy, happy old folk doing well on cialis and so I feel as if we all are pals with the stuff around here. What...

For distraction in this wearying world one can usually turn to the comix. Ha, say the comix today. You think you got it bad? There's Lisa from Funky Winkerbean** heading off to dance death (or maybe it's the phantom of the opera come to collect her?) and Grandad Jim from For Better or Worse is staring up at an alarmed Iris. Jim might be just having yet another set-back. God knows those old people do that. Lisa's clearly entering the dance floor up in the sky, poor thing. Jeepers. __________ ** I can't find the comic at the official site but here's part of a statement: For the first time in a comic strip, Funky Winkerbean creator Tom Batiuk has depicted the death of a young wife and mother from the recurrence of breast cancer. Lisa Moore, a major character who is battling breast cancer for a second time, succumbs to the disease on Oct. 4, 2007, leaving behind her husband, Les, and their five year-old daughter, Summer. As a result of Batiuk’s commitment to helping...

wearing black gloves--updated to white jewel-encrusted gloves

You know the problem with Doug's meme? "identify my most frequent writing mistake, then tag five other bloggers to do the same." It's so hard to just pick one mistake. Repeated word syndrome? Too many m-dashes due to working for epublishers who don't allow many commas and absolutely no semi-colons? Skipping over the easy analogies, metaphors, imagery that are part of the first draft (my way of working = get the stuff out and then rewrite)? Thinking I'll ever get published in NYC again? Amiable rather than exciting characters? Plodding plots? You pick which is my most egregious mistake. I'm going back to bed and mourning my late career. Now I get why good writers like Nancy Butler throw in the towel. The running in place thing gets old fast. And my ear hurts. Oops. I once again forgot the important piece of advice a mega-hugely-successful writer** told us at a workshop. I need to express endless enthusiasm about my work and my competence. If I believe I...
