SBD--tipping the scales back

I finished my 8 RITA books at long last. All 8 were put out by big name publishers. I'm not going to talk about the books because that wouldn't be kosher. But let me just say that to rinse out the flavor between some of those stale, predictable stories and their stale, flat characters, I picked up my computer to read me some Carrie Lofty, Sam Winston, Bonnie Dee and Bettie Sharpe. If I had more print books to go through, I'd probably line up AM Riley, Shiloh Walker....just in case. Okay maybe I should actually draw up a list of my faves some day but that's not the point. Back on track: Get it yet? To make myself read what promised to be a bland print book, I'd promise myself an ebook at the other side. The point at last: I am turning into an ebook snob. Never mind the fact that only a few of those print books were dreary and the others were just fine. The truth is only one was great as the ebooks I read over the same period and none took risks or stuck in my brain...

hey look at this!

Bettie Sharpe rocks .... and not just because she's a great writer, an actual FNV . She made a very cool button for Dean who won a contest here. It's such a cool button that it makes me want to hold another contest. February, maybe and Maybe I'll make it a title / back cover copy contest because I love those things and they're a great way to practice writing: 1. blurbs 2. query letters 3. sucknopses. (in which you try to keep a perky style while giving away key plot points) Why should I care about you , my fellow rioters getting some practice with these skill sets? Because Bettie did my button as part of a play it forward thing so now I'm tagged it. She refuses socks and says I should continue to support "wobbly baby deer writers" (I love that phrase) Attention: any baby deer in search of real guidance should head over to PBW. Also learn to hold very still so you blend into the landscape. (that's not so much for the rioters as for any real bambis ...

Back to some usual bloggage. . . Ember's done

It's safe to go over to Bam's place and start the book because you can get the whole thing read and not have to wait and wait and ... PHEW. Thanks, Bettie.

PS Bettie Rocks

and while you're over looking at Bam's old contests, which really are fun (see my promise at the link on the right?) read the first chapter of Bettie Sharpe's story. Actually if you were me, you'd wait the ten agonizing weeks for the whole thing to to be out because you'd hate that drip....drip....thing with serial stories that hook you. Instant gratification in necessary when it comes to a good book. If you were me, you'd have the attitude of screw you, Charles Dickens. At the end of a single chapter, I keep hoping the rest of the book will magically appear. This book by Bettie hooked me good. OR maybe you could email Bettie and beg her for the story? Offer her riches; offer her writing contracts (and feel free to throw in my first born child with your offer. He's stealing his brothers' halloween candy and causing much unhappiness.) And has Carrie announced the title of her coming Kensington book yet? I'll go see if it's up at her blog. . . .
