hey lookit! my two Kensington titles are on Kindle!

Somebody Wonderful and Somebody to Love** are now both available for ebooks. A few weeks ago someone at twitter asked me about them--she wanted one for her ebook collection--and I said it'll be years before they ended up as ebooks. (I figured I'd get the rights back in a few years, buy a cover from Kimberly Killion and do it on my own.) But hey! I don't mind who does it. I'm just glad to have them out there....unless it's some pirate. In which case, I'm not exactly pleased. If I find out this is legit (as in I get royalties again) I might even hold a celebratory contest of some sort. ** this book.

Stuff report

Snow report: back snow still about 1 foot tall and impressive. pile in front less than 6" tall and this rain should do it. Book report: Yup, I'm reading -- Kim Harrison. I was annoyed by how people are portrayed as good, then bad, then good. In love, out of love, attracted, hate, love...but now I'm used to it. Everyone is a mix and Rachel, the narrator, really wants black and white so she'll keep switching back and forth in her opinion. I sometimes I wish it was in third person. Also I'm reading some book my college aged kid left behind, Early Judaism: Religious Worlds of the First Judiac Millenium. Works for insomnia. My Book Report: The Mad Baron will be out next week, I think. Food report: We have strawberries and I need some now, I think.

I've been looking for judges for a contest ( this one ) and I swear to god, editors and agents are running for cover when I ask them. I visualized the standard image involving those scurrying cockroaches the second after I throw the kitchen light switch on, but that's hardly fair. If we're going for cliches let's say the editor is a camel with way too many umbrellas, waterbottles, Gladstone bags and bird cages hanging on her hump and apparently my request is a straw. She sees it coming and knows that her spine is in danger. She runs when she hears my voice. Anyway. It's been a lot worse than usual. Many of those editors are not even bothering to return my calls and notes with a "no thank you." I've hunted the editors for this contest about four? years? and never had so much trouble. Maybe it has nothing to do with the cash-strapped employee-dumping industry so that one person is now doing the job that used to belong to six. Maybe it's my breath. Aa...

Yay! SBD later....but first:

Gave us for Only whoops, first they sent the note to Marie Treanor saying Congrats BONNIE AND MARIE!** It's not a complete mystery why they'd think of that author combo-- Bonnie and Marie do write some really fun books together. **** Hey. I have absolutely no problem with being mistaken for Marie Treanor . On my good days, I aspire to be Marie Treanor . *** Oh, whoops, again (me, this time). Edited to put up the book that actually won. _______________ **and if you now have one of the greatest hits of Donny and Marie stuck in your head, you're welcome. **** Oh! Another update with another reason cataromance might have mixed it up: Marie and Bonnie also won a 2010 Best Of Award for this book .

Okay, I have the entries. I still don't have a title because I'm still staring at them. Here's what I do know -- everyone who entered is a better Editorial Assistant than I am. You guys rock. But I think I'd save that for a literary novel. Or a self-help ten-step book about working to your potential) Callie's Ratcatcher Cutter His Naive Temptress Dangerous Naivete ...

My New Cover and the contest

See? The title Rat Catcher does not fit that cover. This is from Kimberly's site of premade covers , but look! She has a bunch of images she'll make into covers . So? What are you waiting for? Enter the contest to give me a title. Maybe you're waiting for details? Okay, okay. I'll work on my back cover text sheet later. First I have to write a book that'll actually earn me some money. filed under promo kinda

Get it while you can AND a contest, maybe

Here's your chance to play editor! Give that book a title. Test your skills as a editorial and/or marketing peon. your questions, answered: WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS, KATE? Because I've tested my skills and they suck.** WHY #2? I'm going to buy a new cover for The Ratcatcher. Mostly because I love Kimberly Killion's business . And I'm fond of this book. This means the final product is going cost me money. Which, in turn, means I'm going to stop giving it away for free. Of course there are a gazillion free copies of the thing floating around, and this is a useless exercise, but why not? Hey? Well? WHY #3? I'm more likely to sell more copies if I give the book a new title because the title Ratcatcher actually sucks, according to everyone who knows these things. There are no rats, there is no ratcatcher (which disappointed a number of people) and the title is as romantic as Pesticide. WHY #4? This seemed like fun at the time. So far, I'm the only one who th...
